Hi Guys I bought an Amilo Xi 1546 and an Amilo Si 1520 (for GF) one year ago last month. Yesterday I decided to upgrade bios on both. I got upgrades from FS site. The Xi upgrade was an uneventful experience.

Defect Laptop Motherboards Buy defect Motherboard - non-functional main board, ideal for parts like ports and chips. Low cost laptop repair for all models such as HP, COMPAQ, VERO, DELL, IBM, LENOVO, ACER, ASUS, TOSHIBA, FUJITSU, SIEMENES, ARMADA and many more!

I used windows upgrade method (first time for me) instead of the usual CD iso burning method (the way I did before). It worked fine. I did the same on the Si 1520. Just before it finished the screen displayed lines of text for a second, then went blank with fan running continious. I had power from ac as well as battery before flashing.

I had no programs running. I had disabled spyware and AV software. I realized straight away that the bios upgrade had crashed. I will not repeat the words that came from my mouth.

GF didnt believe me when i explained the implications. Today I rang FS support in order to get a new bios chip supplied and/or fitted. To my horror they told me that the bios chip is soldered to mainboard and I would need a new mainboard to be fitted.

COST: over €500. Vertex standard programming software download. Just to buy board:€300+ The FS support (first line) said it did not matter that it was out of warranty, BIOS upgrade is not covered. When I asked what about goodwill gesture, he said blank 'no'. I asked to talk to second line support but he said I could not.

I asked to speak with somebody else, he refused. Murphys law states that if something can go wrong it will more than likey go wrong at some stage.

For those upgrading their BIOS keep murphy's law in mind. Especially with Si1520 If anyone knows what kind of bios chip and where to buy a it for this mainboard. May be able to get somebody to solder it in (am not good enough at soldering) Have seen one Italian website that replaces soldered chip with new one flashed with what ever version you require. Has anybody any experience of this.

Hi bubblegum Am looking for somebody to help me sort my crashed bios. I dont need a link to the user manual of the laptop. It already comes with the laptop on a disc and is available on FS site.

The furthest the FS manuls go is replacing memory and HD. I am looking for a disassembly manual. Without sounding rude Bubblegum, most people have google or similar on there browser. Like i stated on the opening post: 'Have seen one Italian website that replaces soldered chip with new one flashed with what ever version you require.

Has anybody any experience of this' and you reply with a link to the same site. So I ask again: Does anybody know where I can get a disassembly manual or even a short step by step for Si 1520 May send the laptop itself to the Italian company: Has anybody used this company or does anybody know of a bios solder replacement company closer.

Siemens

Like maybe in the UK. Or does anybody know what type of bios chip: DIP 16x16 or PLCC 7x9x7x9 is on the Si1520 Regards Boo. Hi boopolo, I find that most people on forums don't know how to google.

So I'm sorry if I underestimated you. My motherboard has a page which shows a link for bios recovery. I couldn't find your mb manual, so I pointed to the link. I didn't realise I sent the same link a second time. I have no experience of the website you found, so I can't comment. I wish you luck in getting the answers to your questions on this forum. I hope you are not offended but, I found a Bios website You might find something about a bios recovery.

I also googled & found a site with pictures of how to disassemble Fs laptops Again I wish you luck, in your quest. Bubblegum, I already told you I have google, and used it extensively before posting this thread. So why do you keep putting up useless links.

The second link is well known to most Amilo users, but if you took the time to look there is no SI 1520. If you are tring to get your post count up, please use another thread.

Anyway I see on other forums that lots of people are losing their bios using fujitsus-siemens windows upgrade. This is interesting On 29-08-06 F-S brought out version 1.10 in both FLASH & DOS FLASH (no exe version) On 26-01-07 they brought out version 1.19 in Flash, DOS Flash, and EXE (I used the latter) Three weeks later they brought out 1.20 in DOS Flash, and flash iso 5 weeks later. That was last March; and still no V1.20 in EXE. I am sure they will find some excuse, but to me that states that either V1.19 itself or the exe (windows version) had given problems. Boopolo, I just read this thread and felt obliged to comment. Bubblegum was simply trying to help you with the problem you have, there was no reason for you to reply in that manner.
