JCD-201 DELUXE BASE STATION DESKTOP MICROPHONE For use with Amatur radio or CB radios.
I was given this by a local here for me to set up and test, so he could listen to how it sounds. Mined you now, this is small test and there will be more to follow. 1st station was 2 miles from me. 2nd station was 8 miles from me - which he has worked on solid state radio's for the last 40 yrs.
I will make this short for now and just give the results. Radio - 2970dx After all said and done, both stations agreed that the mic was not very strong in the audio department. They have both said that the same radio with the 575 and Turner +3 was double the audio than what the 201M was doing. The mic was only tested on SSB. The mic preformed the best in only one setting and that setting was: Mic was set; FM mode, Low compression. It didn't work good in manual mode when using the mic gain on the base - although it would drive the radio well, it just didn't have any 'punch'.
I am done testing the 201 now and the mic was turned back to the owner. From talking with several people today in Calif, including Robb here from the forum, here is how it sounded. All testing was done on SSB with 2970dx The majority have voted for the mic to be set in the FM mode for talking on SSB.
When the mic was set in SSB mode the audio was not as good as FM setting. It was also tested in the Low/High compression setting and it was a no go for these settings. No one like the way it sounded and besides that, there was a drop of about 25-30 watts when in this setting on the mic. Although the audio was decent, it did lack the 'punch' that the 575 or Tuner +3 gave.
The +3 actually had more drive in putting out the watts. The owner of the mic also listened to it and has decided to return it for a refund. This mic may work on many other radio's, but on the 2970dx, like the owner has, it's not what he wants.
He has listen to my +3 on the same radio and liked it much better than the 201. I traded a cobra 148 for a jcd201 mic a few years back. I spoke to the dealer in KY that was pushing these big time way back when.
I was directed to their mouthpiece. All i can say is THANK GOODNESS FOR E BAY!!!! He supposedly had a hand in the design & building of these. I'm guessing he picked the color. Pryme doesn't support the jcd201, but. Yeah, i pretty much got the same results. I tried it on an ic735, ic751a, ic765, ft101e, ft767, ts440, a host of uniden grants, cobra 2000, and even a couple connex 4800/rci6900-type exports.
On the hf rigs, it 'worked', but nothing at all to distinguish itself from the stock mic. Drajver dlya veb kameri samsung vg stc2000. On the CB's & exports-YUP. Well, it was clean & clear, but absolutely NOTHING! No punch, it wasn't loud, and yes, the compressor made a difference in PEP watts, but, 75 to 90 ain't doing NOTHING. 75 LOUD watts seemed to outdo 90 'quiet' watts everytime. Looks nice, but it's missing something.
MFJ has a few similar looking mics, this seems to be their top of the line model. $99.95 R&L has it for $89.95 and copper sells a 4 or 5 or 6 pin adapter for $10 according to 808 the one copper the sells are special made according coppers design changes. I would imagine what if any design changes were trivial at best given coppers and 808 reputation away from the copper site. Anyone have any experience or comments on MFJ mics?
